March 19, 2008I Needed Active Release Technique
December 12, 2007Somehow, I injuried my hip. This made running painful and even cycling wasn’t going so well. I decided to go for some Active Release Technique (ART) treatment. ART is a state of the art soft tissue treatment technique that is based on massage technique. ART treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. It can also be used to treat headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow. These conditions all have one important thing in common. They are mostly a result of overused muscles.
Each ART treatment session I have had is a combination of examination and treatment. I go to Dr. Scott Vanderleest for treatment and he uses his evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves that are causing me pain. He then treats the abnormal tissues by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. In this way, ART is a very active method of treatment.
